Welcome to Kinshasa ”La Belle”, the capital of the Democratic Republic of Congo and the musical heart of Africa. The rumba reigns, since the dawn of time. The legacy is passed on from generation to generation. This is the birthplace of José Pereelanga. At age 16 he had his first public gigs and was soon discovered by the Congolese music elite. MADILÙ SYSTEM (known for having Africa’s most beautiful voice) was first and let José join his band for a six-month African tour. This was followed by collaborations with artists like PAPA Wemba and Nyoka Jossart LONGO. Pereelanga’s musical training was completed by entering the ZAÏKO LANGA LANGA, the national orchestra of Congo and a well-known springboard for young talents. The years in Zaïko led to a number of recordings both in Africa and Europe, as well as long European tours and gigs at several prestigious venues and festivals (Zenith de Paris, Elysée Montmartre de Paris, Madeleine de Bruxelles, Festival Couleur Café/Belgium, Festival Euwarden/Holland etc.). In recent years, Pereelanga expanded his repertoire by creating music for contemporary dance (including the show Festival de Mensonges at Jazz de la Villette and the Avignon Festival, France) and collaborating with the reputed Paris rappers ESKADRILLE.
Now, José Pereelanga presents new material as a solo artist. The beautiful melodies are characterized by sensitivity and originality, as well as a deep personal commitment. The singer/composer himself says that he created the music with "eyes open to the reality and heart full of hope" and that he yearns for a brighter future for Congo and Africa. His music is deeply rooted in the Congolese music tradition but takes influences from jazz, flamenco, reggaeton and Nordic folk music. With timeless, modern rumba, an incredible swing and a unique voice José is a worthy heir to both Madilù and Rochereau, two of Africa's greatest singers of all time. José Pereelanga invites us into his musical universe, his family, his country of origin - do not miss the party!
